HISTORY of the SAN FRANCISCO HARLOT

As local legend tells, the alleys of San Francisco’s South of Market district are named after the Barbary Coast era’s famous ladies of the evening, the HARLOTS. Deeply coveted and highly respected, the Harlot was admired for the services she provided. Time has passed, but the city’s lore remains. From her infamous dark alley, Harlot waits to please all who enters her doors.

SPACE and DESIGN

Once you enter, you immediately feel Harlot’s powerful seduction. As you pass by the immense black rock wall, the space unfolds into soaring 16-foot ceilings with dark modern textures, a visual treat that transforms your mood in a breath and a heartbeat. Located in a former 1907 printing press brick building, elements of the original structure have been revealed and are likewise celebrated.

The original riveted steel columns run down the center of the grand lofted space. “San Francisco is a place that appreciates superior art, so it was extremely important to choose artwork that is both unique and deeply moving” said designer, Jacek Ostoya, regarding one of the major pieces titled Matthew’s Heroine, a hauntingly beautiful creation by Bay Area artist Tiffany Bozic. Local artist and poet Brian Strang graces choice wall space with a mixture of poetry and watercolors, while other artwork includes an original lithograph by Camille Rose Garcia and large paintings by Manny Fabregas.
